Your portrait experience - Information

Your portrait experience is our passion

How it works - overview:

1)If necessary we hold a complimentary consultation to discuss your photography requirements.

2)We will book a date for your portrait sitting and confirm this in writing to you. We will ask for a booking fee of £20 at this point to secure your appointment (does not apply to certain promotions).

3)You attend the sitting. This will involve a few minutes having a talk over what you can expect and what products interest you (some products require a specific shooting style to give them full benefit)

4)When the sitting is complete we will book a date and time for you to view the images. This will be via a projector in our studio. We have the facility to build frames on-screen so you can see what you are getting in real time.

5)We will ask for a minimum of 50% of the order value before work commences on any order. The remainder is due at the time of collection, though we do offer a discount for full payment at the viewing.

What to wear:

It is best to plan out the clothing you and, if a group / family, the group will wear.  Try to ensure everyone is consistent; that everyone wears light clothing or everyone wears dark clothing.

Please avoid large emblems or motifs. It is also advised to avoid spots and stripes, with the exception of a gentleman’s formal shirt, where vertical stripes are acceptable. Plain is usually best.

If you wish, bring two (or more) different outfits each (one light and one dark for example), we will be able to give you some completely different looks to choose from.

If we are doing a fashion shoot or boudoir session then think about the underwear and accessories that you would like to bring (stockings, jewelry, hair accessories etc).

Make up:

If you wear make up, please bring the following with you (if you normally use it):

Foundation, blusher, mascara, lipstick and day cream.

We do offer a full make up service on request. We may however request that we apply some makeup before a session, the way a camera sees the face is not the way that we do!

Babies & toddlers:

As most parents will be aware, you need to pack additional outfits, just in case of little accidents!  We are breast feeding friendly and have no problem with you changing your little cherubs nappy either.

It is often nice to get photographs of newborns without their clothes or nappy, so please bring a blanket to cover them between shots. We will always make this as quick a process as possible.

With older babies and children, bring along a couple of their favourite toys, this will help them to feel more at ease in the studio.

The Photographer:

The photographer for your sitting will normally be Ian Rose, Studio Manager and Principal Photographer for Star Photography. In the very unlikely event he is unavailable, the photographer will always be an experienced and qualified portrait photographer, carefully chosen by us.

You will never be required to pay more than the original quote, even if the replacement photographer normally charges higher rates.

You can be sure that your portrait photography is in safe hands with Star Photography and that we will produce some magnificent images together.
