So, for this article I have used a deliberately unsuitable image. It has not been properly scaled or cropped, I am unshaven etc etc. It actually say the exact opposite of what I want to say! So what is your head shot or avatar really saying about you
The 'Corporate Head shot' is now a common place requirement for websites and social media sites and alike, but what is it really saying about you and/or your business? Your customers will check you out on line so are you getting the right message across?
You need to start with your brand description - what are the fundamentals of your business standards and qualities that every customer will receive. How then do you translate that?
Key wording is a good tool to use. Maybe you want to be seen as young and energetic, maybe mature and established, maybe as niche? So, having your standard corporate head shot against a plain white background with a semi-fake smile (or maybe a grimace) does little to convey that to your potential clients.
Professional head shot photography has moved on from what most people can now achieve with a decent camera phone. The shoot needs a concept, the image needs to tell a story, it needs to make the viewer curious to know more, to explore your website or social media site further.
The old phrase 'a picture speaks a thousand words' has never been more true. A dull, uninspiring photograph on your website will send potential clients away faster than a poor opening paragraph. A descriptive, calculated professional image will encourage them to forgive the odd uninspiring sentence and read on.
